Barite

Barite is a mineral consisting of barium sulfate (BaSO4) and derives its name from the Greek word “barys” meaning heavy. It is easily identifiable by its heavy weight, since most similar minerals are much lighter. It is a tabular crystal with a hardness of 3 – 3.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. Our Barite found in Huanuco, Peru, is yellow to green in color and is sometimes brilliant and translucent.
